Youth Engagement Leader Positions

Each year, January through February, the MYJC program accepts applications for MYJC Youth Engagement Leader summer positions. The positions are located at offices throughout rural and northern Manitoba and provide 15 weeks of full-time employment from early May to mid-August.

Position description

Summer employment as an MYJC Youth Engagement Leader is an excellent opportunity to build your supervisory, public speaking, event planning and communication skills and gain valuable work experience for your resume. Your motivation, energy and leadership skills will be an asset as you network, partner and negotiate with local businesses and organizations to develop and operate the local Manitoba Youth Job Centre.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • operating a local community employment referral program for students, youth and employers
  • organizing and operating youth first-work experience community programs
  • developing and delivering training and educational presentations to students and youth
  • making presentations on job search, career development and employability skills in local community classrooms and other venues
  • promoting and advertising MYJC programs and services throughout the community
  • providing information and access to other government and community programs

Eligibility

All applicants must:

  • be a resident of Manitoba
  • be a student currently attending a post-secondary institution and planning to return to studies in the fall of 2019
  • have a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
  • register with STEP services (www.studentjobs.gov.mb.ca)
  • be bilingual for certain office locations (indicated in the “Office locations” section of this site)

Successful applicants must:

  • be available to start employment the second week of May and continue in the position until mid-August
  • attend a paid 3-day training session in Winnipeg (accommodations, meals and mileage/travel expenses are also paid) prior to beginning work at community MYJC offices

All offers of employment will be contingent upon submission of satisfactory criminal record and child abuse registry check.
