CALL FOR INTEREST: Food Security Fund 

Overview:

The Manitoba Government has created a one-time Food Security Fund of $1.75M to assist not-for-profit community organizations who address food insecurity and support vulnerable Manitobans who are in need of food. The grant is intended to provide temporary financial relief to organizations who are struggling with the increased costs of delivering emergency food services.

Maximum Grant:

Organizations can apply for a maximum amount of $225,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligible organizations must: 

  • Be legally incorporated not-for-profit community organizations capable of entering into an agreement.
  • Have a primary mandate of addressing food insecurity (e.g. food banks, soup kitchens), OR have a food security initiative in addition to other programming (e.g. a community resource center that also provides emergency food packs).
  • Have at least two years of experience with initiatives that address food insecurity.
  • Have experience building partnerships with other not-for-profit and private sector organizations to support Manitobans.

Eligible Expenses:

Eligible expenses include:

  • One-time capital expenses below $25,000 (e.g. fridges)
  • Salaries
  • Operating costs that have been affected by inflation
  • Supplies
  • Other expenses necessary to run a food security program

Ineligible expenses include:

  • Capital expenses greater than $25,000 

Application Form:

Applications must be submitted  online. Alternate formats may be requested.  Applications must be received no later than October 10, 2022, at 11:59PM., Central Standard Time. Late applications will not be accepted.

Selection Process:

After the application deadline of October 10, 2022, at 11:59PM., Central Standard Time, the Manitoba government will review and evaluate the applications received. Successful organizations will be notified.
