What we’ve done
Weekend premium
We’ve added an $8-per-hour premium to registered nurses and licenced practical nurses who work weekend hours. Since the premium came into effect, more than $5.9 million has been paid.
Wellness incentive
We’ve launched additional support for mental-health counselling including a one-time wellness bonus of up to $500 for nurses and allied health employees through the Blue Cross Benefit Plan. Ongoing discussions are taking place to include other health-care employees.
Full-time incentive
Eligible nurses occupying a full-time position will receive a premium of up to $10,000 per year. Those who are eligible will start to receive payments in early 2024.
Reimbursing licensing fees
Eligible nurses and allied health-care professionals employed within our public health-care system will be reimbursed annual professional licensing fees for each of the next two years.
Reimbursing physician licensing fees
We are reimbursing licensure fees for practising Manitoba physicians over the next two years. Doctors Manitoba will distribute the reimbursement.
Extended clinic hours
We’ve launched a new 20 per cent premium for family medicine and pediatric clinics that offer extended hours, making primary care more readily available for patients and families.
Psychotherapy virtual care
We’ve expanded virtual care to group psychotherapy visits.
Travel nurse incentive
We've incentivized travel nursing by increasing the premium currently paid to travel/locum nurses to work shifts in remote/northern sites.
Provincial nursing float pool
We've created a provincial float pool to support staffing needs across the province, under the 2021 Manitoba Nurses Union collective agreement. These nurses receive a premium for shifts worked away from their home site.
Joint Nursing Council
We’ve established a Joint Nursing Council to collaboratively focus on joint priorities, including work-life balance, recruitment and retention and excellent patient care.
