The school administration and parent council plans a nutrition month in the month of May every year.  We pick a day of the week to be nutrition day, and each week represents one of the four food groups.  For example, the first Wednesday would be “Milk and Milk Products” day. Each student is to bring something in their lunch that is a milk product.  The teacher sees the item that is healthy, gives them a ticket to enter their name into a weekly draw for prizes for each class. The prizes are aimed for physical activities/outdoors and include: kites, soccer balls, skipping ropes, bubbles, etc.  At the end of the month, we have a school-wide snack with fresh fruit provided by our parent council.  It gets the parents involved when packing their lunches and the students thinking of healthy choices. We have a weekly assembly and we draw the names of the winners in front of the whole school.
