As part of ongoing efforts to help Manitobans, the 2023 Carbon Tax Relief Fund will support approximately 700,000 Manitobans to address the negative impacts of rising winter costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Payments will be sent to all adult singles and couples with 2021 family net income under $175,000. 
  • Persons’ family net income and marital status will be determined based on their 2021 Manitoba income tax return.
  • For couples, the payment will be sent to the spouse or common-law partner that has the lower individual net income.
  • Payments will be $225 for single Manitobans and $375 for couples, with the lower income earner receiving the payment. To receive the couples amount of $375, both spouses or common-law partners must be Manitoba residents and must have filed their 2021 income tax return by December 31, 2022. 
  • For single individuals, this is simply their own net income, while for couples it is the sum of their net incomes.
  • Persons must have filed their 2021 Manitoba income tax return by December 31, 2022 in order to be eligible.
  • Those who filed their 2021 income tax return after December 31, 2022 are not eligible.
  • Persons who have died are not eligible for the payment.
  • However, if they have a surviving cohabiting spouse or common-law partner, that person may be eligible to receive the payment.
  • Cheques will automatically be mailed to person eligible to receive a payment.
  • A cheque will be mailed to the same person’s address used for their 2021 Manitoba income tax return.
  • It is estimated that approximately 698,000 payments will be sent to Manitobans, totalling approximately $200 million.
