DESCRIPTION OF DEPOSIT
The Mandy deposit was in a shear zone in Precambrian volcanic breccia (Fig. 20). It was situated in the same synclinal fold as the Flin Flon mine (63K/13 SW; CU3), but on the opposite and overturned limb. The strike and dip of the ore was parallel to the enclosing formations, and the plunge was steeply south. The ore replaced a tight draft-fold in the sheared rocks which acted as an incompetent member lying between more competent rocks. The chief minerals were pyrite, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, and minor amounts of galena and arsenopyrite.
The orebody was 100 feet long, 12 feet wide, and tapered downwards to a depth of 200 feet. The orebody exhibited zoning. Surrounding the central chalcopyrite-rich part of the deposit was a zone mixed and banded sulphides in which sphalerite predominated and this in turn was surrounded by a zone in which pyrite was the abundant sulphide (Davies et al., 1962).

HISTORY OF EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT
The deposit is located on a peninsula in the northwest arm of Schist Lake, about 6 km southeast of Flin Flon.
In 1914, a yellow-red stain was noticed in the vicinity of the deposit by Spurr (1926), but it was not staked until 1915, when F.C. Jackson discovered massive chalcopyrite and sphalerite in a thick lens at surface. The claims were optioned to the Tonopah Mining Company of Nevada (Bruce, 1918) which incorporated the Tonopah Canadian Mines Company in 1916 to conduct diamond drilling on the property. Surface assays were reported from the chalcopyrite bands and sphalerite bands from the middle of the ore zone by Bruce (1917):

By mid-summer of 1916 the ore body was blocked out, the drilling showed 25,000 tones of massive chalcopyrite averaging about 20% Cu with $5.00/ton combined Au and Ag (Northern Miner, 28 02 04).
Following the results of the diamond drilling, the property was assigned to Mandy Mining Company which started mining from an open pit in December, 1916. The ore was hauled approximately 64 km to Sturgeon Landing on the Saskatchewan River, then barged 209 km by Ross Navigation Company to The Pas, and finally transported 1,931 km by rail to Trail, B.C.
During the winter, 1917-18, a shaft was completed to 100 ft. level and stoping began. The ore was now barged down Schist Creek and to the south side of Athapapuskow Lake and then hauled to Sturgeon Landing.
In 1918-19, the shaft was sunk to the 200 ft. level. The ore was again hauled to Sturgeon Landing, but now the ore was barged to The Pas by the Mandy Mining Corporation. The mine operated until March, 1919; however, the last shipment was made in August, 1920. Total production during the 2 1/2 years operation was 25,231 tons (22,885 tonnes) grading 19.79% Cu, 0.085 oz/ton (2.943 g/tonne) Au and 2.42 oz/ton (83/15 g/tonne) Ag. Lease 75 was taken out on the property in 1920.
