DESCRIPTION OF DEPOSIT
Massive sulphides form two parallel lenses in Amisk chloritic dacite. Siliceous sericite schist, probably derived from rhyolitic quartz porphyry, was drag-folded around the dacite.
Both lenses strike northeast for lengths for 100ft. and dip steeply northwest. They are separated by 15 ft. of waste rock. The mining width of the eastern lens averaged 11 ft. to a depth of 500 ft. The western lens averaged 16 ft. to 550 ft.
Massive and disseminated pyrite and chalcopyrite were reported on surface. Massive sulphides formed the orebody, pyrite replaced grains of quartz, chlorite, and calcite. Pyrite was cut by veinlets of chalcopyrite, quartz, and iron carbonate. Pyrite was also disseminated in the surrounding schist.
Sphalerite was reported in trenches in 1928 which were probably on this property (Flintoba Corp. File).

HISTORY OF EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT
The deposit is located on an island in east-central Thompson Lake, approximately 19.5 km due east of Flin Flon (or 38.6 km by road).
Don Jon (29178) was staked by W.E. Baker in 1919. Pits and trenches were dug and blasted from 1920 to 1925, inclusive. In 1924 it was optioned to Manitoba Metals Mining Company Limited. Two years later it was assigned to J.C. Grace. It was optioned to R.A. Bryce later in 1926. An electric survey was reported in 1927 along with three drill holes. It is not known whether this work was done by Bryce before he abandoned the option in 1927. Lease 946 was issued to Grace the following year. Also in 1928, Don Jon was assigned to O.N. Scott.
Flintoba Mines Limited apparently took an unregistered option on Don Jon in 1928. This is suggested by an engineer's report which mentions up to 8.54% Cu over 11.5 ft. and 4.29% Cu over 27.5 ft. on an island in Thompson Lake (Flintoba Corp. File). Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada (Limited) optioned the property did some drilling. They found a small ore-grade lens, but dropped their option (Flintoba Corp. File).
It seems that the property was idle for several years. During this time the following transactions occurred:

Year Activity
1938 Lien against Don Jon M.C.
1940 Sheriff sold claims to Fred Small
1942 Assigned to W. Govan
1948 Assigned to W.M. Roberts
1948 Optioned and Development Company Limited (H.B.E.D.)
1949 Lease 946 renewed

Drilling by HBED between 1948 and 1951 yielded encouraging results, so Don Jon Mines Limited was formed to develop the deposit. The claim was assigned to Don Jon Mines in 1951.
Surface drilling was discontinued in 1951 in favour of continuing exploration and development from the North Star shaft. In 1953 a cross cut was driven 1,620 ft. on the 600 ft. level of the North Star, which was owned by Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co., Limited (HBM&S).
Mining of the Don Jon deposit commenced in 1954. Ore was hoisted through the North Star Mine (see SE13, 63K; Cu5) and stockpiled. Production figures for 1955, when full production began, probably include some of the stockpiled ore. Mining continued until the orebody was mined out on August 22, 1957. Later claim history is tabulated below:

Year Activity
1958 Assigned to Knobby Lake Mines Limited
1967 Assigned to Guggenheim Exploration Company, Inc.
1970 Lease 946 renewed
1973 Assigned to Cerro Mining Company of Canada Limited
1975 Assigned to Pinebay Mines Limited
1976 Lease converted to claim #29178
