Financial and Administrative Services

The Financial and Administrative Services division provides financial comptrollership, financial advice and administrative support to the Department of Indigenous and Northern Relations. The division also provides central accounting, fiscal management and control, financial analysis and reporting, and policy development and review.

The division coordinates responses to requests under The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

It also manages the activities of the Northern Affairs Fund, which includes the Specific Purpose Fund and the Taxation Fund. The Specific Purpose Fund administers support for community operations and municipal services, including the administration of cottage subdivisions and the Municipal Employees Benefits Plan. The Taxation Fund levies and collects property and school taxes within the Northern Affairs jurisdiction.

The Executive Financial Officer is the department’s designated officer for The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower Protection) Act.
