Explore the Regions

The North

The north is Manitoba’s largest region, home to many cities, towns and communities nestled in a vast landscape of pristine wilderness. It is the heart of adventure territory, with crystal-clear lakes, waterfalls and boreal forests less than a five-minute drive from major centres. The four-season playground is made for golf, hiking, skiing, boating, fishing, hunting and snowmobiling.

Manitoba Prosecution Service has offices in both The Pas and Thompson.

The largest city in the northern region, Thompson was founded in the 1950s and is surrounded by boreal forest. It is home to incredible outdoor hunting and fishing opportunities, as well as the Spirit Way – a two-kilometre walking and biking pathway with points of interest that highlight Thompson’s art, heritage, culture, industry, geology, scenery and industry.

The Pas, known as the Gateway to the North, is a hub for outdoor activities and recognized for its vibrant culture including Indigenous events like the Opaskwayak Indian Days and the Northern Manitoba Trappers Festival. The Pas has a history as a fur trading post and is home to the University College of the North.

Parkland

The City of Dauphin is found in the heart of Manitoba’s spectacularly scenic Parkland region, surrounded by farmland, natural beauty and myriad opportunities for outdoor recreation. Nestled between Riding Mountain National Park and Duck Mountain Provincial Park, it is a gateway to pristine wilderness, wildlife and clear blue lakes.

Westman

The Westman region of Manitoba offers a unique blend of stunning natural landscapes, rich history and vibrant culture. Shaped by ancient glaciers, the area features rolling hills at Turtle Mountain Provincial Park and the rare Spirit Sands dunes at Spruce Woods Provincial Park. With roots tracing back over 10,000 years, Westman celebrates Indigenous heritage and peaceful international connections at sites like the International Peace Garden. Brandon, the region’s largest city, showcases its agricultural heritage through lively events at the Keystone Centre and supports a thriving arts scene. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore extensive riverbank trails, go mountain biking in the Brandon Hills and trek the historic bison hunt trail at Grand Valley Provincial Park.

Central

Located in Manitoba’s fertile Central region, Portage la Prairie offers a blend of small-town charm and big-city access. Known for its rich agricultural land and fascinating fossil history, it’s a welcoming close-knit community with friendly neighbourhoods, local businesses and year-round outdoor activities, from fishing and hiking to skiing and camping.

Portage la Prairie is just under an hour from Winnipeg with easy access to world-class arts, culture and professional sports. Home to the Portage Terriers Junior A hockey team and a variety of recreational opportunities, Portage la Prairie is an ideal place to build a career and enjoy a great quality of life.

Capital Region

For thousands of years, the junction of the Red and Assiniboine rivers has been a vibrant meeting place – and today, Winnipeg stands as the heart of the Canadian Prairies. As Manitoba’s capital and the largest city on the Prairies, Winnipeg boasts a rich history deeply rooted in Indigenous gatherings, the fur trade, the railway and the grain exchange. Now, it’s a thriving hub for aerospace, technology, creative industries and so much more.

Experience world-class ballet, theatre, opera, contemporary dance and symphonic music. The city’s arts scene, praised by the Globe and Mail as some of the best in Canada, also includes jazz, blues, pop, visual arts and multicultural festivals that celebrate its diverse communities. Enjoy beautiful parks, scenic river trails and an active sports scene featuring professional teams to cheer for year round. With vibrant bilingual communities and a welcoming spirit, Winnipeg is a place where everyone feels at home.
