The Legislative Library of Manitoba's two locations are open to Members and staff of the Legislative Assembly, to government employees, and to the public.

Research

Professional research assistance is available in person at the library, by phone, by email at legislative_library@gov.mb.ca, or by completing our Ask a Librarian form. Areas of research available:

  • Legislation: Staff help clients research legislation using many tools, including Manitoba, federal and provincial/territorial statutes and journals.
  • Legislative Debates: Staff helps clients find information by searching online and print versions of Legislative Assembly of Manitoba Debates and Proceedings (Hansard).
  • Government Documents: The Legislative Library has a comprehensive collection of Manitoba government documents in print, and provides access to the electronic versions in its Digital Collection of Manitoba Government Publications.
  • Genealogy/Local History/General Research: The library has unrivalled Manitoba newspaper and community histories collections, as well as Henderson Directories and Winnipeg and provincial phone books. The library aims to collect all works published in Manitoba, and other significant items published about Manitoba.

Inter-Library Loans

Through the interlibrary loan service the Legislative Library borrows materials not held in our collections from other libraries on behalf of Legislative Library members. For more information, please visit our Interlibrary Loans page.

Photocopier/Scanner

Library materials can be photocopied, photographed, scanned or saved to USB or CD. Print or digital copies are available for off-site researchers upon request. For information on reproduction charges, please contact the library.

All copying is subject to copyright law; the library reserves the right to limit the number of copies provided.

Photographic reproductions

Professional photographic reproductions can be created of library materials. Photographic reproductions are outsourced to The Lab Works.

Consult the The Lab Works Guide to Services and Price List for the Manitoba Legislative Library (PDF) for information regarding the costs and procedures associated with this service.

Complete the Photographic Reproductions Order Form (PDF) and submit to Library staff.

The Lab Works will contact clients directly regarding details of and payments for each order. The Library does not take payment for this service.
