Fishing Season Opens May 9th, 2020 for The Southern Division

News Release

Due to late spring conditions in Manitoba, many waterbodies are still thawing which is delaying the spawn of many fish. With the angling season opening on Saturday, May 9th in the Southern Division, we are asking anglers to protect our fish stocks and release any fish that are spawning (discharging eggs). We also remind anglers to exercise caution around flowing water and deteriorating ice conditions.

We thank all anglers for releasing spawning fish and encourage everyone to practice good catch and release techniques. Please remember to follow all public health orders in place while fishing. Have a great open-water angling season.

Manitoba Fisheries' mandate is to ensure sustainable use of the fisheries resource. Management programs are developed to provide the greatest benefits to Manitobans, by maintaining or enhancing fish populations and habitat, monitoring harvest and habitat alterations, and allocating resources for the best return.
