Provincial Elder Abuse Strategy
The Provincial Elder Abuse Strategy is a provincial strategy to help prevent the abuse of older adults. The Provincial Elder Abuse Strategy continues to evolve to meet the needs of our community.
Key components:
- a Seniors Abuse Support Line which provides information, referral, counseling and follow-up support
- elder abuse counseling services are provided through A&O to older individuals who are experiencing abuse and living in Winnipeg
- support for a Safe Suite Program which offers crisis accommodation (three suites located in Winnipeg) for older adults who are in need of a safe place to stay due to abuse or neglect
- support for Prevent Elder Abuse Manitoba (led by Good Neighbours Active Living Centre) which is a provincial interdisciplinary network of service providers, that aims to increase awareness, and support communities in preventing the abuse of older Manitobans
- consultation with communities and regions throughout Manitoba to develop coordinated community responses to elder abuse
