Hairstylist

Trade Description:

Hairstylists use a range of specialty equipment and products to cut, style, colour and chemically treat hair. Duties also include treating the hair, scalp and related skin conditions. Classroom instruction includes developing a working knowledge of workplace health and safety, as well as personal and public hygiene. Hairstylists enjoy working with, and meeting people. They need to be able to stand for long periods of time, maintain a well-groomed and professional appearance, and keep up-to-date with styles, supplies and technologies.

Employers include salons, hair replacement clinics, studios and retail product sales companies.

When registering as an apprentice, enrolment in or completion of technical training is required.

In addition to a Red Seal endorsed certification-theory examination, a practical examination is required for this trade.

Additional mandatory requirement to be obtained after receiving the Certificate of Qualification:
Valid Authorization to Practise (fee for this document is $75 and renewal is required every two years through Apprenticeship Manitoba)
