Non-Capital Space Expansion

Manitoba’s Action Plan under the Canada-Manitoba Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement provides funding for expansion spaces (spaces developed without capital funding for construction/renovation) to increase access to licensed child care for children aged 0 to 6. It articulates Manitoba’s plan to increase the number of spaces in child care facilities in partnership with child care providers across the province. Provincial funding supports the expansion of school age spaces.

Licensed child care facilities may be eligible for annual operating and one-time start-up grant funding. Operating and start-up grant funding allows existing, funded homes and non-profit centres to expand and new homes and non-profit centres to open and receive ongoing support. Once funded, facilities are required to comply with the regulated maximum parent fees of up to $10 per day and expected to pay staff at least the minimum on the Wage Grid. Funded facilities may also be eligible for the following grant funding.

Existing, funded centres and homes looking to expand should contact their designated Child Care Coordinator at Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) for further information. Providers wishing to open new centre-based child care or home-based child care can find further information on the ELCC website. A License Application can be found here.
