Indigenous and Northern Initiatives Fund

 

Fund Objectives


The Fund challenges Indigenous and non-Indigenous Manitobans to engage in new and innovative approaches to reconciliation. Proposals submitted to the Indigenous and Northern Initiatives Fund will contribute to the following outcomes: 

Who Can Apply


Indigenous and Non-Indigenous individuals and eligible organizations:
  • Non-profit* and for-profit organizations that
    • have been in existence for at least one year,
    • are active, and
    • are current in its filings under the Corporations Act (Manitoba).
  • Registered charities (under the Income Tax Act)
  • First Nation Communities and Northern Affairs Communities
  • Schools and School Divisions
  • Individuals and unincorporated organizations may apply with the endorsement of an eligible non-profit, for-profit or charitable organization (see list above). In these cases, funding will be issued through the eligible organization. 
*A non-profit organization is an organization organized and operated exclusively for social welfare, civic improvement, pleasure, recreation, or any other purpose except profit. 

When to Apply

  • Applications are not presently being accepted.

What We Fund


Eligible Proposals

  • Proposals that align with the Fund Objectives
  • Proposals for single-year projects

Ineligible Proposals

  • Proposals for multi-year projects
  • Proposals for capital projects
  • Proprosals to fund core operating costs
  • Proposals that duplicate or overlap with existing programming (i.e. activities that fall primarily within the mandate of other department programming or jurisdictions)
  • Proposals to support Section 35 Crown consultations.

How Much We Fund

  • Generally, proposals up to a maximum of $25,000 will be eligible, but consideration will be given to larger proposals that demonstrate significant partnerships and the potential for exceptional regional or provincial impact.
