Section 133.8 - Job Coach

Job coaches assist individuals with skill development, including task learning and short-term one-on-one counselling to resolve problems and issues within the job setting. Funding for job coaching services is not available to address or solve persistent behavioural problems or issues.

Job coaching services under this provision should focus on skill development and direct employment related issues.

Process

The services of a job coach may be used to provide employment supports:

  • in rural regions where there is no Employment and Training Centre; and an individual requires support because they are at risk of job loss due to disability-related factors; or
  • in exceptional circumstances to aid individuals, where an Employment and Training Centre is unable to provide the required level of support to assist the individual. Exceptional circumstances may include complex disability issues that are required to be addressed in a work setting.

The range of pay for a Job Coach may vary, depending on the skill set of the individual. Pay rates cannot exceed rates paid for Tutors. In all cases, the hourly rates are for hours of direct service. Preparation time and travel time are not to be considered as part of service provided. Refer to Section 166.8.

Standards

The following standards apply for job coaches:

  1. Job Coaching Services may be approved when:
    1. the support service is not available due to lack of resources in a rural, remote, or northern region; or
    2. the participant's needs cannot be met by existing Employment and Training Centre services and/or natural workplace supports due to the complexity of the disability related issues and their impact on job skill acquisition.
