Climate and Green Initiatives

In Your School

Here are some ideas for green projects that you can undertake in your school or classroom:

  • Start or expand your on-site recycling program to capture paper, metals, glass, plastics, ink cartridges, electronics and batteries.
  • Start a composting program to capture organic waste.
  • Start a community garden.
  • Join the Resource Conservation Manitoba (RCM) Active and Safe Routes to School program.
  • Arrange for a safe cycling course to be held at your school to encourage active transportation. Ensure that safe bike storage exists for students and staff.
  • Join the Resource Conservation Manitoba (RCM) Commuter Challenge which is held every year during the first week of June.
  • Host a green grad or dance. For information on greening ideas go to Planning a Conference or Social Event.
  • Host a waste free lunch.
  • Take your school name off unwanted mailing lists.
  • Encourage your community to be idle free. Contact Climate Change Connection (C3) for Idle Free Zone signs that you can post around your school.
  • Host a vegetarian, organic and/or locally produced foods lunch.
  • Hold a clothing swap. Trade in some clothes that you don’t use anymore in exchange for some of your friends’ clothes.
