Proposed Regulatory Amendments to the Apprenticeship and Certification System
The Manitoba government is considering regulatory changes to the apprenticeship and certification system. The scope of the changes relate to revising the apprentice to journeyperson ratio, adding and eliminating certain trades to meet industry needs, implementing program changes for specific trades, and streamlining the process for conducting future program changes. NEW: Apprenticeship Manitoba Awards of Distinction
The 18th annual Apprenticeship Manitoba Awards of Distinction will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2024. The awards gala celebrates those who have shared their time and talent to train apprentices and to raise the profile of apprenticeship training in the skilled trades in Manitoba. NEW: Apprentice-Journeyperson Ratio Changing to 1:1 Later This Year as Part of Apprenticeship System Modernization
The Manitoba government will be amending the apprenticeship-journeyperson ratio from 2:1 to 1:1 as part of its commitment to protect the health safety of workers and strengthen Manitoba’s skilled trades workforce. For more information about this change, please click here.
Suspension of Review and Approval of Any New Accredited Programs for the Trade of Esthetician and the sub-trades of Nail Technician and Skin Care Technician
On April 20, 2023, the Apprenticeship and Certification Board approved the updated Provincial Occupational Standards for the trade of Esthetician and its two sub-trades of Nail Technician and Skin Care Technician.
Effective immediately and until further notice, Apprenticeship Manitoba will be suspending the review and approval of any new accredited programs in the trades of Esthetician, Nail Technician and Skin Care Technician.

NEW: Highest Achievement Awards
The Highest Achievement Awards is a formal awards ceremony held each year to honour the most outstanding new journeypersons, and recognize employers and leaders in Manitoba’s skilled trades.
This year’s 32nd Annual Highest Achievement Awards ceremony is being held on May 2, 2024 at the Manitoba Legislative Building. The individuals selected for these awards have completed all the requirements of their apprenticeship training and are honoured for excellence in both their academic achievements and on-the-job training.
