In accordance with The Crown Corporations Governance and Accountability Act, Crown corporations under the act must submit quarterly reports, annual reports and business plans to the Minister of Crown Services, and make them publically available.

The minister may issue mandate letters, formerly called framework letters, to the board chair of a Crown corporation.  These letters establish the government's goals and expected outcomes for the corporation during the period covered by the letter, as well as the performance measures that will be used to determine if the corporation achieves those objectives.

The minister also may issue directives concerning matters of policy, accounting policies, advertising and organizational reviews.  This ensures that the corporations act consistently, and in concert with each other, and furthers efficiency and effectiveness.
