What is Harm Reduction?

Harm ReductionHarm reduction is using strategies, programs and policies to reduce negative health, social and economic consequences associated with the use of legal or illegal substances.

A harm reduction philosophy informs strategies directed at the whole population, as well as specific programs aimed at sub-populations of vulnerable people to enhance the knowledge, skills, resources, and supports for individuals, families and communities to be safer and healthier.

There are many organizations that provide education, resources and services related to harm reduction throughout Manitoba. Information about these services can be obtained through your Regional Health Authority, and through the following services and organizations:
