TGI II Hydrocarbon Assessment Compilation

The Hydrocarbon Assessment Compilation for the TGI II is a compilation of several datasets related to oil and gas accumulations for the entire TGI II area. It is comprised of eight different layers of information, including oil field boundaries, oil pool boundaries, oil unit boundaries, reserves information, core listings, drill stem test (DST) listing, oil and gas shows, and geochemistry data. These layers can be viewed using the TGI II Hydrocarbon Assessment Compilation (HAC) Map, downloadable below. The HAC Map includes two additional layers of information: (1) a layer with all the wells used for the creation of the TGI maps, and (2) a layer with the outcrop geology using the formation distribution and edges of all the units mapped for the TGI II project stacked one on top of the other. Note this is not a true representation of the outcrop geology, as the TGI project excluded formations younger than the Belly River Formation in Saskatchewan or the Odanah Member of the Pierre Shale in Manitoba. The download below also includes two additional folders (1) shapes.zip and (2) Excel.zip. The former includes all the individual shapefiles used to create the map so that it can be used as individual entities, and the latter includes Microsoft Excel® tables of data, including reserves information.

HAC_2008 Map Project

This electronic map presents the TGI II Hydrocarbon Assessment Compilation in a ArcMap/ArcReader project for use with ESRI® ArcGIS software. As well as the oil and gas related layers listed here the project also contains cultural infrastructure layers, base map data and a digital elevation model layer derived from SRTM version 2.

HAC Map Data Files

HAC Map data files are included in the TGI_II_HAC_2008 download above. These include shapefiles and Excel data tables, and can be found in the shapes.zip and Excel.zip folders. Below is a synopsis of the technical data available in these folders, the latest date of the data at the time of compilation (date of data), and the corresponding file names.

Field and Pool Boundaries
The field and pool layers show the oil field and oil pool boundaries for southwestern Manitoba, and Saskatchewan east of 106° longitude.

Date of data: January 2008 for Manitoba; June 2008 for Saskatchewan.

Data file names:
     MB_Oil_Fields_2008.shp
     MB_Oil_Pools_2008.shp
     SK_Oil_Pools_June2008.shp

Unit Boundaries
The unit layers show the unit boundaries for southwestern Manitoba, and Saskatchewan east of 106° longitude.

Date of data: December 2007 for Manitoba; June 2008 for Saskatchewan.

Data file names:
     MB_Units_2007.shp
     SK_Units_June2008.shp

Core
The core layers are a list of all available core southwestern Manitoba, and Saskatchewan east of 106° longitude.

Date of data: September 2007 for Manitoba; February 2007 for Saskatchewan.

Data file names:
     MB_Core_Sept_2007.xls
     MB_Core_Sept_2007.shp
     SK_Core_Feb_2007.xls
     SK_Core_Feb_2007.shp

Drill Stem Tests
The drill stem test (DST) layers show all the DSTs that were done in southwestern Manitoba, and Saskatchewan east of 106° longitude.

Date of data: October 2007 for Manitoba; January 2007 for Saskatchewan.

Data file names:
     MB_DST_Oct2007.xls
     MB_DST_Oct2007.shp
     SK_DST_Jan2007.xls
     SK_DST_Jan2007.shp

Oil and Gas Shows
The oil and gas shows layer is a compilation of oil and gas shows as reported in DSTs, core descriptions, literature and industry geological reports. This layer is only available for southwestern Manitoba. This list of shows is not meant to be a complete listing of all oil and gas shows in Manitoba, but simply a compilation over time taken by government geologists. This listing includes only wells that were not capable of production at the time of compilation. The oil and gas shows layers are separated by age. The Mesozoic and Cenozoic shows are on the on the Mesozoic shows layer (MB_Mesozoic_Shows); the Mississippian shows are on the Mississippian layer (MB_Miss_Shows); and the Devonian to Cambrian shows on the Lower Paleozoic layer (MB_L_Paleo_Shows).

Date of data: December 2004

Data file names:
     MB_Mesozoic_Shows.xls
     MB_Mesozoic_Shows.shp
     MB_Miss_Shows.xls
     MB_Miss_Shows.shp
     MB_L_Paleo_Shows.xls
     MB_L_Paleo_Shows.shp

Geochemistry Data (Rock Eval & TOC)
The geochemistry data is a compilation of Rock-Eval and total organic carbon (TOC) data from various sources, including GSC open file reports, Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) publications, and Manitoba Geological Survey in-house data for southwestern Manitoba, and Saskatchewan east of 106° longitude.

Date of data: June 2008

Reserves Information
The reserves information provides the oil reserves information for southwestern Manitoba, and Saskatchewan east of 106° longitude. This information is available only in Excel format, and is not shown on the interactive map.

Date of data: December 31, 2002 for Manitoba; December 31, 2004 for Saskatchewan.

Data file names:
     MB_Oil_Reserves_2002.xls
     SK_Oil_Reserves_2004.xls
