Fannystelle School
Designation Date: April 8, 1987 By the 1950s in Manitoba, consolidation of the educational system had all but eliminated the need for local one-room schools. Centralized facilities were considered more effective and efficient, and new schools were provided to meet this need. At the same time, new design philosophies were being brought to bear on school building design. The Fannystelle School is just such a building, a model of the new. It is "modern," crisp and sleek, characterized by unadorned flat surfaces and straight lines. Large windows flood the interior with light. This kind of school design was used for about 20 years, and dozens of such buildings were built throughout the province. |
