Municipal Building
Designation Date: July 20, 1989 Like other civic authorities of their time, the founders of West St. Paul sought to combine a number of services in one building. Besides council chambers, the building has provided space as a community centre and legion. The building was designed by well-known Winnipeg architect C.S. Bridgeman, who also designed such landmarks as St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Winnipeg. The West St. Paul building is a stately, comforting presence. Bridgeman used Classical Revival elements like the detailed entrance portico, cornice, parapet and mixed flat and arched openings to create a noble, inviting repository for civic pride. Recent additions have respected the original character of the design. |
