Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church

Designation Date: January 14, 1991
Designation Authority: The L.G.D. of Park
Present Owner: Roman Catholic Mission of Wisla

The first Roman Catholic priest in the Elphinstone area, a French Oblate named Father Comeay, ministered to local Aboriginal peoples during the late 1850s. Father Cheameau succeeded Father Comeay, and as settlers entered the area he provided spiritual comfort and guidance. This church was built in 1917 and served the faithful for years. It is now used for special occasions. Architecturally, the church is a modest piece of work, but not without its charms: the small circular window in the façade is a nice touch.
