Frame House
(Pioneer Home Museum)
390 King Street,
Virden

Frame House

Designation Date: March 5, 1991
Designation Authority: The Town of Virden
Present Owner: The Town of Virden

This fine brick house is a Virden landmark, chosen in 1969 as the site of the new Pioneer Home Museum of Virden and Districts. The house was selected for this honour because it had been so well maintained over the years, and also because it had been so little changed since its construction. The house had been built in 1888 for James Frame and his wife.   Mr. Frame was an early hardware merchant in town and served the community as a member of the Legislative Assembly. The house is a fitting representative for the town, a fine piece of architectural design, carried out in brick and with details typical of the Queen Anne Revival style. The Pioneer Home Museum was officially opened in 1970, with Lieutenant-Governor Richard Bowles in attendance.
