Elkhorn United Church

Designation Date: February 16, 1994
Designation Authority: The Village of Elkhorn
Present Owner: Trinity United Church

This Gothic Revival-style church was originally constructed for the Elkhorn Methodist congregation in 1903. For a time, it was known as Elkhorn Union Church, as it served both Methodists and Presbyterians. In 1925, when those two denominations formed the United Church of Canada, it became known as Elkhorn United Church. It is built of buff-coloured brick and set on a stone foundation. A corner tower with intricate brickwork supports a spire topped by a finial. Wooden bargeboards highlight decorative gables on the spire. A large pointed window with wooden tracery provides a striking focus at the front of the church. Smaller pointed windows accent the side and rear walls. The church interior includes the original pulpit from the local Presbyterian Church, which was brought over at the time of church union.
