Lea House

Designation Date: February 26, 1998
Designation Authority: The R.M. of Pembina
Present Owner: privately owned

Richard N. Lea was an important character in the development of south-central Manitoba. He arrived, from England, in the Manitou area in 1880. Over the course of his life he served on the council of the Rural Municipality of Pembina and on the Manitoba University Council. The house he and his family built in the early 1880s is one of the oldest in the area and is an excellent example of residential building from that era. Designed by the Hooper Brothers, and built by a well known contractor, George Ullyot, the house still boasts a completely intact interior.
