Concrete Box Bridge

Designation Date: February 8, 2000
Designation Authority: R.M. of Franklin
Present Owner: Emerson-Franklin (M)

The construction of small bridges was a modest but important development in the creation of an efficient transportation system in Manitoba. The first small bridges were often little more than heavy wooden planks thrown across creeks and streams. But by the time of World War I more substantial culvert-type bridges of concrete were replacing those earlier structures. This bridge was built in 1917 by contractor Fred Esterby, who later became an engineer.
