UNITED NATIONS RESOLUTION 61/17
“On 20 November 2006, the General Assembly decided to proclaim 2009 as the International Year of Reconciliation. It expressed its steadfast determination to pursue reconciliation processes in those societies affected or divided by conflicts, describing such processes as necessary for the establishment of firm and lasting peace.”

“The Assembly invited concerned Governments and international and non-governmental organizations to support reconciliation processes among such societies. It also invited them to implement adequate cultural, educational and social programmes to promote the concept of reconciliation, including the holding of conferences and seminars, and the dissemination of information on the subject.”

CANADA. INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT. RESOLUTION SECTOR
“The Resolution Sector is responsible for addressing and resolving issues arising from the legacy of Indian Residential Schools.”

CANADA. TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION COMMISSION
“The TRC was created as a result of the court-approved Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement negotiated by legal counsel for former students, legal counsel for the churches, the Government of Canada, Assembly of First Nations and other Aboriginal organizations.... The Commission's mandate is to document the truth of survivors, their families, communities and anyone who has been personally affected by the Indian Residential Schools legacy.”

INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE

S.E.R. FOUNDATION
S.E.R. Foundation (Foundation for Subjective Experience and Research) was founded in Würzburg, Germany in 1996. It is a civil, non-profit, humanitarian foundation and is politically neutral. See this site for S.E.R. activities relating to the International Year of Reconciliation.

UNITED STATES INSTITUTE OF PEACE
This is an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by Congress. The USIP works to prevent and resolve international conflicts, and promote post-conflict stability and development. Available at this site is a list of truth commissions for countries all over the world. Links to many of these commissions of inquiry include the report from South Africa’s Commission of Truth and Reconciliation.
