Electronic Logging Devices (ELD)

Recent changes to the federal Commercial Vehicle Drivers Hours of Service Regulation and the provincial Drivers of Hours Service Regulation may require drivers and carriers to outfit their commercial/regulated vehicle with an electronic logging device (ELD). Safety Fitness Certificate Information

Section 312.2 of the Highway Traffic Act requires motor carriers to hold a valid safety fitness certificate (SFC) to operate a regulated vehicle in Manitoba. SFCs are renewed annually and a valid SFC is required to register a heavy commercial vehicle in Manitoba. Manitoba is changing the requirements related to the annual renewal process for SFC’s starting in the fall of 2022.

Manitoba has amended the Safety Fitness Criteria and Certificates Regulations

Manitoba has amended the Safety Fitness Criteria and Certificates Regulation to improve the safety monitoring of commercial vehicle operators in the province. Starting on January 1, 2023, all new safety fitness certificate applicants will be required to have a certified compliance officer. Compliance officers may obtain certification by successfully completing the New Entrant Training (NET) course, which is administered by the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA). Existing commercial carriers with a poor safety record may be asked for safety plans, action plans and/or be ordered to take the NET course to ensure that they understand their safety obligations under the Highway Traffic Act.

Manitoba Spring Road Restrictions

Manitoba Spring Road Restrictions (SRR) are in place to protect Manitoba's surfaced pavements from undue damage by reducing allowable axle weights during the spring thawing season.

Changes to spring road restrictions for any climate zone will be communicated with a 3-day advance notice.

International Roadcheck CVSA

International Roadcheck CVSA takes place on May 14, 15 and 16, 2024. Motor Carrier Enforcement Officers participate annually in this event, conducting compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle and driver safety.
