Who Needs To Comply?

The operator of the vehicle(s) must comply with the Safety Fitness Program requirements.  The operator is the registered owner of the vehicle(s).

How to Comply with Safety Fitness Program Requirements

The registered owner of the vehicle(s), also known as the operator, must have a Safety Fitness Certificate.
Safety Fitness Program requirements must be met within 30 days after the effective date of their vehicle registration renewal or assessment. For example:

  • If the effective date of your vehicle registration is November 1, 2015, you must meet all requirements by December 2, 2015.
  • If the effective date of your vehicle registration is February 5, 2016, you must meet all requirements by March 7, 2016.

Safety requirements apply to all vehicles that you own/operate, whether you have just one or more than one.

Heavy Truck

6800 KG Truck

A truck or truck tractor with a registered gross vehicle weight (RGVW) of 4,500 kg or more.

A truck with a registered gross vehicle weight (RGVW) of less than 6,800 kg that is used only in Manitoba.

Heavy Passenger Vehicle with RGVW over 4500 kgs Schoolbus
A vehicle designed with a
seating capacity for 11 or more persons, including the driver

A bus used to transport children
or other passengers to or from school or a school-related activity.
