MB Wallet Privacy Policy
MB Wallet is a voluntary program, and is used to receive, store and display digital Manitoba Health card credentials ("digital dredential") securely on your personal electronic device.
Your digital credential will be issued to you by the Manitoba Department of Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care ("MHSLTC") upon your request, in addition to (or, if you so choose, instead of) a physical Manitoba Health card.
If you are a family registrant (as defined in the Residency and Registration Regulation, MR 54/93) with one or more resident dependants (as defined in The Health Services Insurance Act, CCSM c H35) for whom you have registered on their behalf, your dependant's Digital Credential may be issued to you by MHSLTC upon your request, in addition to (or, if you so choose, instead of) a physical Manitoba Health card.
You may choose to display your (or, if applicable, your dependant's) digital credential in MB Wallet when seeking access to health care in Manitoba, in place of a physical Manitoba Health card. MB Wallet does not support credentials that work in other digital wallet applications, like Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Disclosure and Access to your Information
In issuing you your digital credential, MHSLTC will disclose your personal information and personal health information to you in accordance with clauses 44(1)(a) and (e) of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, CCSM c F175 ("FIPPA"), and clause 22(1)(a) of The Personal Health Information Act, CCSM c P33.5 ("PHIA").
In issuing you a dependant's digital credential, MHSLTC will disclose your dependant's personal information and personal health information to you in accordance with clauses 44(1)(a) and (e) of FIPPA and clause 22(2)(o) of PHIA.
The personal information and personal health information in a digital credential is the same as what is contained on a physical Manitoba Health card. This information includes, among other things, name, date of birth and personal health identification number.
You are the only one who will have access to your personal information and personal health information in MB Wallet. The Government of Manitoba does not collect any personal information or personal health information from you through MB Wallet, or through your use of MB Wallet. Information about your use of MB Wallet is stored within MB Wallet and is not shared by MB Wallet.
Your Wallet PIN
You will be required to create a wallet personal identification cods (PIN) when you use MB Wallet. Your wallet PIN is used only to unlock MB Wallet. Your wallet PIN is stored locally on your personal electronic device and is not accessible to the Government of Manitoba or to third parties through MB Wallet. Do not share your wallet PIN with anyone, and no one from the Government of Manitoba will ever ask you for your wallet PIN.
Device Security and Biometrics
You can set MB Wallet to unlock with your personal electronic device's biometric security instead of your wallet PIN. With device security, when you open MB Wallet it will ask your device operating system to prompt you to authenticate. MB Wallet will receive confirmation if you were authenticated but will never get access to your biometric information or device password. Your fingerprint and face identification information is not accessible to the Government of Manitoba or to third parties.
Use of the Camera
The camera on your personal electronic device is activated temporarily when you select the "Scan" button inside MB Wallet. The camera is used only to identify a QR code provided to you by MHSLTC, so that you can add your digital credential to MB Wallet. MB Wallet does not use or store any other camera information.
Protection of your Information in MB Wallet
Data transmitted to and from MB Wallet, and/or stored in MB Wallet, is encrypted and maintained in a secure manner.
