Letter from John McNab to Alexander Kennedy, 24 June 1808.
HBCA, B.239/b/75, p. 34.
To Mr Kennedy Master Inland
Steel River head House 24th June 1808
Mr Kennedy
I have received your Letter of the 13th Instant[.] your opponent (Mr Duncan Cameron) was formidable though your success has been little your actions are highly commendable
Your assistance to Mr Thomas of Albany points out the considerate officer and I doubt not the Service is essentially benefited thereby if the furs go to Albany it is a source of Consolation for the less productive endeavours of York.
I observe your Sentiments concerning black River and shall be guided by Mr Sinclair and your joint opinion
You acted judiciously in sending these Canoes the water is uncommonly shoal and I have been anxious to hear from above
I trust you will vary your wish of coming down[.] it is my opinion your request will be complied with and even if it is not now I have no doubt but a continuation of such merited services will eventually be rewarded Satisfactorily to yourself – this I advice you to keep in view.
I am
Your Sincere friend
John McNab
