The main thrust of the Chief Veterinary Office (CVO) is to safeguard the health of animals and humans by addressing animal health and welfare issues that could have an impact on humans through the contamination of food. Veterinary drugs play an essential role in raising animals for food and affect many areas including animal production costs, the environment, public health, the economy and trade.
