Increase in 2009/10 Wage Rates for STEP Positions/Annual Increase Formula

Treasury Board has authorized departments to increase wage levels for 2009/2010 STEP student positions effective May 4, 2009 and approved a wage adjustment formula to increase STEP wages annually (starting in 2010/2011) at a rate equal to the annual general pay increase approved for the current and future Manitoba Government Employees’ Master Agreements (GEMA).

   NEW 09/10 RATES:

Level 1:
  $9.71
Formerly STEP 1 ($8.72) and STEP 2 ($9.44)
Level 2:
  $10.69
Formerly STEP 3 ($10.39)
Level 3:
  $11.62
Formerly STEP 4 ($11.30)
Level 4:
  $13.01
*New rate*

The restructured wage scale eliminates the under-utilized Level 1 rate and provides increases of approximately $0.27 to $0.32 to remaining STEP wages.  Additionally, the scale introduces a new Level 4 rate of $13.01 restricted to positions that require highly-specialized education, training, and skills; involve complex work assignments; and/or include assistant supervisory duties.
