Description RentAid is a monthly benefit to help low income seniors, families, persons with disabilities and some people receiving income assistance pay their rent.

Coverage

Up to $210 per month is available to eligible persons who rent their living accommodation in the private market and who are required to spend a large portion of their income on rent. The amount of the benefit depends on household income and the monthly cost of renting.

RentAid helps three groups of people:

A new flat rate monthly benefit is also available to persons with disabilities and adults without dependent children who are receiving Employment and Income Assistance, and are living in the private rental market or in room and board accommodation. Eligibility

RentAid is currently available to renters in the following income eligible groups:

  • Single renters who are over 55 years of age or couples where at least one person is over 55 years of age.
  • Persons under 55 years of age with one or more dependents under 18.
  • Individuals who are under 55 and have a disability, have a spouse or common-law partner with a disability or have an adult dependent with a disability living at home.

Only individuals who live in private rental accommodation are eligible for the benefit. Persons with a disability and adults without dependent children who are in receipt of income assistance and living in private rental accommodation or in room and board may be eligible for the flat rate monthly benefit.

Those not eligible for the benefit include:

  • Anyone living in hospitals, personal care homes, residential care facilities shelters or treatment facilities;
  • Homeowners (including mobile homes);
  • Anyone renting from Manitoba Housing or receiving a subsidy for shelter through other housing programs.
