This site provides a wealth of information on family law and the legal system in Manitoba for anyone who wants or needs to know about it. It is important to understand that this site provides general information only. How the law affects any person will depend on the facts of each case. Also, family law changes from time to time as both federal and provincial governments make new laws (legislation: acts and regulations) and the courts make decisions in cases that affect the law (the common law).
Public Trustee
The Public Trustee provides trustee services for a fee to the people of Manitoba in situations where no one else is capable or willing to do so. The Public Trustee provides the following types of trustee services:
- Administering estates and making personal decisions for people who are not mentally capable of doing so.
- Administering the estates of mentally competent people who have granted a Power of Attorney to The Public Trustee.
- Administering the estates of people who have died in Manitoba with no one else capable or willing to act as administrator.
- Administering trust monies for people under 18 years of age.
- Administering some adult trusts.

Maintenance Enforcement Program
The Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) enforces court orders and separation agreements that require payment of family support. If necessary, collection action to secure family support may include a granishing order, a summons, seizure of personal property or property liens.
Chief Medical Examiner
The Chief Medical Examiner (CME) investigates all unexpected, unexplained and violent deaths in Manitoba. If your loved one has died suddenly and you have been contacted by the CME, this site will help you to understand the procedures followed before and after an inquiry or investigation.
