Bed Bug Information for Professionals

Manitoba Health's Health Protection Unit works closely with landlords, tenants, the tourism industry, pest control companies, and other agencies to develop strategies to manage bed bug infestations. The goal is to find solutions to prevent, control and eliminate bed bug infestations and this requires a concerted effort by all stakeholders.

Who is at risk?

Anyone can get bed bugs. Multi-unit dwellings, including hotels, apartments, hostels, shelters, student residences and rooming houses, are high-risk locations for bed bug infestations. The best method to deal with bed bugs is by using an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, which combines a variety of techniques and products that pose the least risk to human health and the environment.

A bed bug infestation can cause anxiety, secondary infections, allergic reactions and financial hardship particularly in the most vulnerable populations.

Collaboration between tenants, landlords and other stakeholders is necessary to eliminate bed bug infestations.
