Dolmage House
44-4th Avenue,
Souris

Designation Date: December 7, 1998
Designation Authority: The Town of Souris
Present Owner: privately owned
This commodious and elegant house was built in the 1890s by William Dolmage as a wedding gift for his new bride, Anna Wood. Anna was the daughter of a member of the Millbrook Colonization party, the first settlers in the Souris area. William became the local and then general agent for Massey-Harris Company. When he died in 1909 Anna converted the house to accept other functions, including a doctor's office. The house was likely built with brick from Harry Payne's brickyard, a Souris operation until it moved to Hartney in 1895. The outside is a study in fine design, but the inside is remarkable, with ornate "ball-and-stick" woodwork. |
