This cemetery eloquently tells the story of pioneer life in Manitoba. On the east side stand, in quiet, formal layout, the handsome grave markers typical of the Ukrainian Catholic and Orthodox faiths, with names and long-ago dates chiseled into the stone. On the west side of this hallowed ground stands a very different set of stones, simple white crosses without names or dates, scattered throughout a grove of poplars. These are of recent vintage, marking the resting places of children—about 27 in all—who perished during the 1930s.
