Robertson House

Designation Date: March 13, 2001
Designation Authority: R.M. of Woodlands
Present Owner: privately owned

When built in 1911, by the grandfather of the present owner, this house was a showpiece on a sprawling expanse of farm outbuildings. And it continues to be a showpiece, carefully preserved by the descendents. It is a fine example of the ambitions of the age, when many farmers were seeking to create sophisticated houses that rivaled those in large urban centres. But it was also built by hard-headed realists, and Lorne Robertson directed his builder, Tommy Creek, to make sure that the foundation was unusually thick and that walls were covered with two layers of facing boards for extra strength.
