Graham Barn

Designation Date: June 13, 2001
Designation Authority: R.M. of Whitewater
Present Owner: privately owned

Now over a hundred years old, this barn is a vital connection to the pioneers who opened the Minto area for settlement. When James and Jane Graham arrived here from Ontario in 1881, they were amongst the first party that broke the land. By 1898 they were well established and able to construct a big, sophisticated barn. Built by the great-grandfather of one of the present owners, it is typical of its type. The huge loft space is accessed by a built-up earthen ramp. The stone-walled stable area was used for cattle and horses as well as pigs.
