Canadian Home Video Ratings System

The Canadian Home Video Rating System (CHVRS) is a national system that provides classification information for films released on VHS and DVD (i.e. home videos) in Canada. Ratings assigned by provincial classification boards and authorities are consolidated into a standardized CHVRS rating, which distributors can use across the Canadian home video market. The system came into effect in May 1995 following collaboration by industry members, the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association and the English-speaking provincial film classification boards.

Manitoba and the CHVRS use the same five-tier classification system (G, PG, 14A, 18A and R). In most cases, home videos distributed in Manitoba bear the national CHVRS classification symbol.
