Committees

The Funeral Board of Manitoba has established three sub-committees, the Education Committee, the Ethics Committee and the Legislative Committee. These committees consist of board members, licensees and community volunteers. Once the Terms of Reference for each sub-committee has been approved by the Board, it will be posted to this page.

Education Committee
The Funeral Board of Manitoba administers The Funeral Directors and Embalmers Act which has oversight of some members in the funeral profession in Manitoba. Amongst its responsibilities, the Board must review and approve the funeral education program curriculum as well as develop a process for approving continuing education courses that provide professional development of licensed funeral directors and embalmers in Manitoba. Establishing a dedicated committee is a requirement of the Regulation.

Ethics Committee
The current code of ethics was first delivered in 2009 as part of The Funeral Directors and Embalmers Act which oversees licensed funeral directors and embalmers. With the addition of The Grieving Families Protection Act, The Cemeteries Act, and possibly The Prearranged Funeral Services Act, establishing a dedicated committee will allow the code to be evaluated and updated by those directly affected.

Legislative Committee
The Funeral Board of Manitoba administers The Funeral Directors and Embalmers Act, The Cemeteries Act, The Grieving Families Protection Act, their regulations and possibly The Prearranged Funeral Services Act in the future. Establishing a dedicated committee to assess these current pieces of legislation will allow for the development of a list of topics currently missing or those that require removal from these outdated pieces of legislation. This committee will also provide much needed input from those that are governed by these laws. The committee will submit suggested changes to the Funeral Board of Manitoba for review.
