Commodity Summaries: Rare-earth Elements

Rare-earth elements (REE) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, considered part of a big group of critical elements often referred as ‘Rare Metals’. REE are essential raw materials for many high-technology applications, have considerable strategic value and are increasingly attractive targets for global exploration. Strong demand for REE is being driven by emerging ‘green’ technologies, such as neodymium magnets for wind turbine generators.

The Manitoba Geological Survey has compiled, organized and summarized up-to-date information on rare metal occurrences in the province of Manitoba, including the occurrence of REE. For more information on Manitoba Rare Metal and REE occurrences, visit the following webpages:
