Public Profile

Since Hilda Blake did not fit the profile of a typical murder suspect, the newspapers of the day looked closely at the 21 year-old servant’s life and character. While some of the reports coming from these investigations may have been sensationalized or speculative, they offer important clues about the young woman and the society she lived in.

The Manitoba Legislative Library holds a wide range of daily and weekly newspapers for this period. Articles related to Blake’s character can be found in the Brandon Western Sun, Brandon Times, Winnipeg Morning Telegram, Manitoba Morning Free Press and Virden Advance.
