Gertrude did not write in her diary on a daily basis but the sporadic entries nonetheless provide a fascinating glimpse of her journey. While some on the entries are basic summaries of her days, others include musings and observations of the people and places encountered, providing the reader with an up front and personal view of life on the Nascopie.
