Once Gertrude returned home she stayed in touch with the people she met aboard the ship through cards and letters. As suggested in her diary she became quite friendly with some of the HBC passengers and members of the Eastern Arctic Patrol. She found that, similar to her own experiences, many of her fellow tourists were being asked to give talks about their time aboard the ship.
