Upper Assiniboine River Conservation District

Back to Conservation Districts

The Upper Assiniboine River Conservation District (UARCD) was established in 1996 and covers an area of 5,812 km. The conservation district encompasses all or parts of the municipalities of Rossburn, Prairie View and Hamiota, the town of Virden, and the rural municipalities of Yellowhead, Ellice-Archie and Wallace-Woodworth.

The district is dedicated to promoting and maintaining a healthy and sustainable landscape. Programs administered by UARCD focus on soil and water conservation, surface water management and water quality improvements. Many projects are identified through the district’s completed integrated watershed management plans for the Arrow-Oak River and Assiniboine-Birdtail Watersheds. These include small dam construction, grassed waterways, bank stabilization, off-site watering, abandoned well sealing, forage seed assistance, zero tillage, shelterbelt construction, rotational grazing, wildlife habitat initiatives and public education.
