Products and Services

1. Invest Canada – Community Initiatives (ICCI):
The Invest Canada – Community Initiatives program was launched in December 2008 to help Canadian communities attract, retain and expand foreign direct investment. ICCI supports non-profit and public-private partnerships at the local community level. The program follows three basic principles:

  • Focusing on supporting the attraction, retention, and expansion of foreign direct investment;
  • Working through partnerships;
  • Sharing costs.

2. Servicing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) leads:

The Regional Office of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada works in collaboration with the Province of Manitoba and municipalities to serve incoming foreign direct investment leads.

3. Other services: Either one-on-one or through targeted business missions, we also work with Canadian companies to:

  • establish or expand their export markets or establish joint ventures;
  • facilitate the acquisition of venture capital;
  • facilitate the acquisition of foreign technology to help grow the business
  • facilitate Canadian direct investment abroad.

Clientele

1. For ICCI – Municipalities and regional economic development agencies with a mandate for foreign direct investment attraction;
2. Incoming foreign investors;
3. Canadian business seeking to expand their engagement in international commerce.

Mandate

Flowing from the department’s Global Commerce Strategy, the mandate of the Trade Commissioner Service is to connect Canadian firms to international commercial opportunities, whether to establish, protect, or expand export markets; to acquire investment or venture capital; to acquire foreign technology; to integrate into or drive global value chains; or to establish joint ventures or technology partnerships. Our network includes over 140 offices abroad and 17 in Canada to serve Canadian firms as they seek to engage internationally.
